Jacob was on a merchant marine ship docked in Pensacola when he got in a fight with the 1st mate. He thought that he had killed the 1st mate and he jumped ship. The Greek community hid him from the athorities. He had visited Pensacola in 1913 and had asked for the hand of Bertha Seiffert. He left FL in Aug 1915 and came to Houston with Bertha. | GHEORGHIU, Jacob (I25)

Katherine, who was married to Casimir Luczak at the time, had just had a baby. Her husband had been mistreating her, so she decided to take the baby and go to Annie Polka's farm. She got off of the train on a cold November day with the newborn baby in her arms. It was very cold and the wind was blowing hard. As she crossed a fence on her way to the Polka farm, she hung her dress up in the barb wire. Becaused of her weakened state and the cold, she could not free herself. She died out in the cold and by the time the Polka's found her, the baby was also suffering from exposure. The baby died a few weeks later. | MADUZIA, Katherine (I117)
