A large crowd of people with Polish roots gathered at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham Texas on Sunday, October 25, 2009 to celebrate the 19th annual Polish Heritage Festival. The hardworking kitchen crew served up a delicious home style Polish meal to the long line of diners. The meal consisted of smoked ham, kielbasa, sauerkraut, potatoes, green beans and pickles along with a choice of czarnina or rosol (duck or chicken soup). Ice tea and a choice between dozens of delicious homemade deserts rounded out the meal.
Take home food to go including popular traditional Polish dishes such as pierogi, kiska, kielbasa and soups was sold out of the kitchen and plenty of soft drinks and piwo was available to the crowd. Inside the large parish hall there were grocery and cake booths and outside there were lots of fun activities for the kids.
Daniel Cendalski and his band, Daniel and the Country Boys, entertained the crowd with a lively mix of Polish and Country music. The auction drew a crowd and the bidding went on for several hours. There were lots of homemade goodies, quilts and other items up for bid. The raffle drawing was held late in the afternoon.
