Fish Fry and Barn Dance in Buckhorn Texas

Fish fries are pretty common on Friday’s during lent and on Friday evening, April 9, 2011, a group of Polish music lovers met in a large barn just a few miles east of downtown Buckhorn, Texas for some good food, music, fun and fellowship. As it turned out, the owner of the barn, Sonny Janczak, is not only an accomplished Polish fiddler, he’s also capable of cooking up some of the best fried catfish you’ve ever eaten. The fish was served with french fries and a host of other delicious meatless dishes brought by the guests.

Polish Agriculture Representatives Visit Historic Church In Anderson Texas

On Friday, March 4, 2011, members of the Agriculture Business Association of Poland and The National Association of Cereal Producers of Poland along with their host Dr. Jim Mazurkiewicz, Leadership Program Director for Texas AgriLife Extension stopped for a short visit at the historic St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson, Texas. St. Stanislaus church was built in the early 1900’s by Polish immigrants who settled in Grimes county.

Polish Agriculture Delegation Dinner and Reception In Bryan Texas

A group of farmers and representatives of the agriculture industry in Poland has been touring the United States for the last week, visiting farms and other agriculture related landmarks. The members of the Agriculture Business Association of Poland and The National Association of Cereal Producers of Poland were hosted by Dr. Jim Mazurkiewicz, Leadership Program Director for Texas AgriLife Extension. On Thursday evening, March 3, 2011, Dr. Jim and his wife Kathy opened their beautiful home in Bryan, Texas to host a reception and catered dinner for the Polish delegates.

Christmas is traditionally a time of joy and happiness and the joy was certainly evident as a large group of kolednicy or Polish carolers congregated in Chappell Hill Texas on St. Stephen’s Day, December 26, 2010. The sky was a beautiful blue and there was a cold, brisk north wind blowing as the carolers began singing on the steps of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, a historic parish that was founded in 1889 by early Polish immigrants to Texas.

2010 Christmas Party At The Lazy Mule In Chappell Hill

On Saturday night, December 11, 2010 a group of Chappell Hill and Brenham natives and their friends celebrated the season with a Polish Christmas party at the Lazy Mule Saloon in Chappell Hill Texas. Daniel Cendalski and Randy Reets with the Daniel and the Country Boys band entertained the crowd with a mix of old time Polish, country and even a little rock and roll. There was plenty of good food to eat and lots of cold piwo to drink as the lively crowd spent the evening dancing, talking and laughing.

On Sunday, November 21, 2010, St. Stanislaus Catholic parish held a special Polish Heritage Thanksgiving (Dozynki) Mass and celebration at the historic church in Chappell Hill, Texas. This unique event combined two well know traditions; the American Thanksgiving and the Polish Dozynki or harvest celebration which dates back to the middle ages. The stated goal of the celebration was to bring people together in the spirit of gratitude and appreciation to God for all we have been given.

Polish Heritage Celebrated At The Texas Renaissance Festival

Saturday, November 20, 2010 was dubbed Barbarian Invasion Day at the Texas Renaisance Festival in Plantersville, Texas but when the grand parade started, there was something a bit more civilized amidst the hoards of barbarians. Three brightly dressed young ladies carrying the Polonia Restaurant banner led the Polish contingent, followed by a large group of people dressed in traditional Polish folk attire and carrying Polish flags.

St. Stanislaus In Anderson 2010 Bazaar Appreciation Dinner

On Sunday, November 14, 2010, St. Stanislaus Parish in Anderson, Texas got together to thank the many volunteers who worked so hard to make their annual homecoming bazaar a sucess. The celebration began with a special Mass which commemorated the feast day of St. Stanislaus Kostka. At the end of the Mass, Tommy Szymczak gave a presentation on the story of the churches patron saint and then a Litany to St. Stanislaus was recited in Polish and English.
