The weather was hot with a mix of rain and sunshine on Sunday, October 14, 2012 as St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson, Texas celebrated their 58th annual homecoming bazaar. The day began with Holy Mass celebrated by pastor Fr. JoJo Cal-Ortiz. The choir sang a beautiful rendition of bądźże pozdrowiona in Polish as the communion hymm.

Houston Texans Head Coach Gary Kubiak And His Bremond Polish Texan RootsIt’s football season in Texas and the NFL Houston Texans are generating plenty of excitement as they begin the season with four straight wins. It’s a well known fact that Gary Kubiak, the Texans head coach and his family have deep ties to Houston but his family also has roots in Bremond, the Polish Capital of Texas. His great grandfather Michal was born in the late 1840’s in the Poznan area of Poland which was occupied by Prussia at the time. He and his family immigrated to America somewhere around 1885 and settled in the Bremond area where he had relatives. Seven of his thirteen children were born and raised in Bremond and the youngest son was Gary’s grandfather.

2012 Dozynki Houston Polish Harvest Festival

After a successful festival opening on Friday evening , Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church in Houston Texas began their annual Dożynki or Polish Harvest Festival on Saturday, September 12, 2012 with a grand opening showing of the American, Polish and Texas flags and the singing of the national anthems.

The three day Dozynki festival is based on a tradition that dates back for many centuries in Poland and symbolizes the end of the harvest for the farmers. It is a time of happiness, good food, folk dancing and live music. Hot and humid weather, typical for this time of year in Texas didn’t stop the large crowd of people from having fun.

2012 51st Annual Jozwiak Family Reunion In Chappell Hill TexasThe Jozwiak family and friends met at St. Stanislaus Community Center in Chappell Hill, Texas the afternoon of September 8, 2012 for their 51st annual family reunion. The large crowd enjoyed fun, food, music and fellowship throughout the day beginning with a special reunion Mass which was celebrated by Fr. Józef Musiol and Fr. Benedict Zientek in the beautiful old St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Mike Addicks, Dr. Jim Mazurkiewicz and the St. Stanislaus choir played and sang Polish hymns during the Mass. A pot luck Polish lunch cooked by family members followed the Mass.

2012 Houston Dozynki Polish Harvest Festival Scheduled For September 14 – 16

2012 Houston Dozynki Polish Harvest FestivalThe 4th annual traditional Dożynki or Polish Harvest Festival will be held at Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church in Houston, Texas on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 14, 15 and 16, 2012. The festival starts on Friday evening from 4 pm to 10 pm and continues on Saturday and Sunday with two full days of live Polish music, dancing, folk programs, a dożynki parade with traditional harvest celebration and thanksgiving, national costumes, dożynki wreath, sharing of bread and other entertainment. There will also be activities for the kids, a silent auction and arts, craft and gift booths. Pierogi, bigos, gołąbki and other traditional Polish food will be served along with Texas barbecue and an assortment of delicious deserts. Soft drinks, beer and wine will also be available.
