James Smock

James SmockJames Smock has always held an interest in his Polish ancestors and heritage. He is a native Houstonian with Polish roots in Bremond, Marlin and New Waverly, Texas.

James is a past president of the Polish Genealogical Society of Texas and was the founding webmaster of the PGST website. He also served as the Surname Index Coordinator from 1994 - 2000.

With a lifelong passion for photography, James can often be found with a camera around his neck. In addition to photographing family events and his grandchildren, he is the church photographer for St. Mary Catholic Church in Plantersville and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stoneham. Many of his photographs can be found on the church website or his photography gallery.

St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Bazaar In Chappell HillIt was a beautiful Texas day as a large crowd descended on St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill for the annual homecoming bazaar on September 5, 2010. A delicious catered barbecue dinner with all the fixings was served beginning at 11am along with plenty of cold beer and soft drinks. There were Grocery, Ham and Sausage, Cake, Vendor Booths and bingo for the adults and a Toy Booth, Train Rides and other activities for the kids. The grand auction with lots of great items was held at 2pm.

2010 Houston Dozynki Polish Harvest Festival Scheduled For September 18 and 19

2009 Houston Dozynki Polish Harvest FestivalThe 2nd annual traditional Dozynki or Polish Harvest Festival will be held at Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church in Houston, Texas on Saturday and Sunday, September 18 and 19, 2010. There will be two full days of live Polish music, dancing, folk programs, a Harvest Festival Wreath and Bread Ceremony and other entertainment. There will also be a silent auction and raffle. Pierogi, bigos, golabki and other traditional Polish food will be served along with Texas barbecue and an assortment of good deserts. Soft drinks, beer and wine will also be available.

Polski Urodziny Polish Birthday Celebration In Bryan Texas

Polski Urodziny In Bryan TexasOn Saturday, August 14, 2010, Dr. Jim Mazurkiewicz celebrated his 55th birthday in style with a Polish birthday party at his home in Bryan, Texas. Several hundred people braved the late summer Texas heat to eat, drink, dance and embrace their Polish heritage. The evening began with a house blessing by Msgr. John Malinowski followed by a blessing of the meal in Polish and English by Jim Mazurkiewicz. As is typical of these types of events, there was more food then the crowd could possibly eat. Guests brought a variety of homemade Polish dishes including kielbasa, pierogi, czarnina, kapusniak, rosol, bigos, golabki along with plenty of deserts and lots of cold piwo.
